Project Goat Rope is what I call my life as an editorial cartoonist. PGR began as a Covid lock-down delusion that somehow worked itself into a (sometimes) paying gig.

In October of 2023, I launched projectgoatrope.com, a self-syndicate attempt that did not work. It was ambitious. I had been doing this for less than two years. I was (and am) trying to break in to a craft that is on the brink. I have heard - a few times - that in the year 2000 there were around 2,000 editorial cartoonists on-staff at publications across the country. And that today there are around 20. Anecdotal, but just from getting to know several real cartoonists, I don’t doubt that it’s close.

Alas, Project Goat Rope will go on. I’ve tried to quit it. A few times. I have had a reason, the opportunity, and the will to just stop. But the Goat calls. So now it lives here on wesrowell.com, where it started.
